Post Donna and prison
I notice that Donna is going to be put into a self contained chalet at Arohata prison--makes you wonder if it better to be a criminal and let us poor mug tax payers pay for her luxury--any comments?

only for people with money, even if it's stolen money.

I think it sux, she was put in a trusted position and breached that trust majorly and this is the punishment?  God it must be so nice to be housed, clothed and fed and all at the tax payers expense.  Doesn't seem like justice to me.

Yes it does sound nice but she can't open the door and go outside when she wants to.  She can't have a drink or talk to friends when she wants.  She has to do things when the guards tell her, and most of all WE ALL KNOW THAT SHE IS A THIEF.   UT

Her name will be tainted for ever (in my mind anyway)

Bloody good job I say.  I never liked the woman.  I get suspitious when a person like that changes their look so often.

I'm just annoyed that its been turned into a race issue.

IE - Certain people are saying that had she been white she wouldn't have been put in prison.

That really annoys me - I personally think she got off VERY LIGHTLY.  Look at Jeffrey Archer on a similar charge - and an MP in England - they've virtually thrown away the key because of the abuse of his position in society.

If you do the crime - you do the time!

As for the comment that Maori don't do well in Prison - well, no one really does well in prison - Maori or European.

WE live in New Zealand. We are all New Zealanders. I believe that the law should reflect this - the same law for all of us. Race should not change this.

Just my 2c worth!

Yes it is a pity that it has been turned into a racism issue.  She is guilty and must do the time whether she is Maori or European.  I too think she got off lightly.  I know of a businessman (European) that was charged for fraud of $90,000.00 (basically the same) and was put in a hard prison for 6 years.  I hear the family paid back all the money to the Pipi Foundation and if that is not admitting her guilt, i dont know what is.

I totally agree with both kikiracer & Sillikiwi.  It is not a race issue it's fraud.

I agree they got of lightly.

It's also common knowledge that a lot more money is unaccounted for, but proving it is

to difficult.

They paid back not even a third of what they took, as I understand.

Just because she payed back some of the money it does not mean she did not commit
the crime. she deserves to do the time

let her sit through her jailterm and see what happens when she gets out.
more often than not, people dont change just by goin 2 prison for a while.
i'm not sayin that she WILL do it again, but its always a possibility.
but what am i, a fortune teller?
